Im finally going to say it.....Twins Daily Coverage of Spring Training Sucks! The story on Max Kepler today illustrates my point exactly. Ok Kepler optioned....why? How did he hit? Did he play good defense?

For those of us who follow the Twins, Kepler had to be one of the most intriguing stories. We barely heard a word. Same is true of our new catcher, yes lately there was some info, but are you like me, and want to look at and examine his stats, maybe even a running total?

For the second straight spring, I am very disappointed in the coverage. I keep hoping it will change but it has been pathetic.

To TD admns, please try to improve your coverage for next year, we have already wasted this year. Ok, shoot the flames, remove the post, I expect the Ostrich effect or Trump effect, attack away!

I'm not sure what more you are expecting.  They have people down there covering some parts of it and writing stories. If you use the forums there is more than enough coverage (Kepler included) to get information from individuals writing on their own who are down their in FM or just following from afar.

Also, this is more of a fan blog than a sports journalism site.  The site owners do not have the access that credentialed sports journalists do, yet in my opinion, spew out 10+ times the information and coverage the newspapers do.

I strongly disagree with you. I think the Twins Daily coverage of spring training is excellent. Likely they do not focus on stats during spring training because . . . spring training stats mean jack. Plus there are at least a dozen websites where you can go get stats up the wazoo if you really want to obsess over 27 PAs. Twins Daily is primarily for news and analysis, and new and analysis of spring training stats isn't really very helpful for anything, other than passing the days until opening day. I do think the coverage of Murphy has been a little light, but there are a lot of important pieces to this years Twins team, and Murphy (as back-up catcher) probably isn't the most important, even if he is new.  I'm sure Twins Daily will have plenty of coverage of how he is adjusting to the Twins, both statistically and otherwise. As for Kepler, where have you been? TD is borderline obsessed with him. There are lots of quotes from Terry Ryan about him in a number of articles I've read here recently. Literally this article from today goes on an on about him:  The fact that it doesn't mention or try to draw conclusions from his meaningless spring training stats is a virtue, not a flaw. Instead it rightly focuses on Kepler's mentality and recent changes in his approach, Ryan's thoughts on Kepler and the organization and Kepler's own plans for him this year.

To sum up, I guess I think saying that the Twins Daily spring training coverage sucks just because they haven't focused on the spring training stats of one or two (relatively unimportant in the short term) players you are particularly interested in kind of sucks.

Nick wrote this article on John Ryan Murphy after talking to him earlier this week: http://twinsdaily.com/_/minnesota-twins-news/spring-training-2016/twins-banking-on-murphys-growth-r4528

Sorry if you've been disappointed in the coverage. When we go down there, we all have different goals and different styles. Though I would go in the Twins clubhouse and talk to guys for a little bit before practice each morning, I also spent a ton of time watching the minor league side. I also took a ton of pictures for the Twitter page but also for minor league reports throughout the season. Nick also got to the clubhouse earlier and wrote a great Notes column each day as well as a feature each night.

But as others mentioned, we do want to do things and write stories that you won't find elsewhere, topics that the mainstream guys aren't covering.

We definitely appreciate your input and hopefully we can go again next year and we can try to get ideas for story ideas.

Reading this made me reflect on and feel extreme gratitude for every one who makes Twins Daily so incredibly exceptional. My own gratitude extends to writers and to community members. And I see the quality of coverage in an almost opposite vein! It's nothing short of excellent, especially when one considers the challenge regarding access and I'm guessing some financial constraints as well. If the access media probed even 20% as deeply and exerted themselves even half as much as the contributors to TD, we'd really have something.

Oh is this where we voice complaints? Because I was promised punch and pie and there is an alarmingly small amount of both pie and punch around here.

I think we cover what we think is important. And we didn't think Kepler's spring was important. He wasn't going to make the team unless someone was hurt. And his spring training statistics were essentially meaningless, as are most spring training stats.
