I thought it might be fun for the community to come together to help one of the Twins Pitchers.  (Josh Winder, Trevor Megill, Pagan, or Lopez) become the pitcher he was meant to be.  For us to do that we need members to post scouting reports, pitching repertoire, heat maps, and videos, and more below and discuss how we as a community would fix this pitcher to make him better.  Whether you want to remove an ineffective pitch from his arsenal, add a pitch, change pitch use patterns, is he tipping pitches, or does he need to overhaul his delivery.  Back it up with stats, and videos and stuff.  Let’s really dive in and help a pitcher get back on track.  For a few ideas, here are some after adjustment articles written by Parker Hageman and Nick Nelson.  Let’s be the ones to help a pitcher figure it out with suggestions below for a change instead of waiting for management to try and we read another story that happened without our input.

How The Twins May Have Contributed To Jorge López's No Good Very Bad Stretch - Twins - Twins Daily by Parker Hageman

Let's Talk About Emilio Pagán - Page 2 - Twins - Twins Daily by Nick Nelson

Lets get this started by figuring out who needs our advice the most.  These 4 pitchers are still with the team and had the least success.

1.  Jorge Lopez, 2.  Emilio Pagan, 3.  Josh Winder, 4.  Trevor Megill

Personally I think is to hire Ethan Katz from the White Sox for our pitching coach.  I like Wes Johnson alot but the new guy - no thank you

I’m not sure how to help Pagán nor López since I honestly believe their issues are between the ears. They both have good to exceptional stuff for their roles……they lack consistent command & I don’t know that is linked to mechanics. Attention span, focus, & intestinal fortitude is where I think these two are lacking.

Megill is the guy, IMO, that has a real upside in the near-term. He has plus curveball & plus fastball at 98MPH. His command isn’t great but if it were he wouldn’t be hittable now.

Guys sit on one pitch and often relentlessly foul it off to get deep in counts. With two pitches to draw on Megill becomes a lesser foe than his stuff would denote! He needs a 3rd pitch……I get it’s easy to say & not as easy to execute. With a change-up OR a cutter he could throw maybe 15% of the time, he’d allow his other 2 pitches some defense and would have a 3rd speed. The 3rd pitch wouldn’t need to be in zone a lot, just a “show pitch” for the most part.

He’s got 2 plus pitches & he’s our 7th/8th option in the pen ………need to coach him up!

Glad to see you blogging! Looking forward to reading more.

If you have a specific pitcher in mind, it seems like it might make sense to start a topic in the Twins Daily forums called something like "Josh Winder (or whoever) Scouting, Analysis and Fixes" and see if that generates some community responses. Maybe it'll work or maybe not.
