Twins Video

In case anybody missed it, here’s the update, credit MLB Trade Rumors, on Danny Duffy’s status.

I would be strongly in favor of the Twins signing him to a 2 year deal, the first year at a minimum rate to pitch as a lefty out of the bullpen from sometime in July to the end of the season. Then a higher salary a/la Dylan Bundy in the second year for him to pitch out of the rotation.

And sign Michael Pineda for sure plus trade for a pitcher, possibly from Oakland. Jon Gray would be okay too.

With the pitching staff they’re going to have, they’ll have to beef up last year’s shaky offense. Castellanos would be be good and if both parties are amenable, Eddie Rosario would be my second choice.

If and when this ridiculous lockout/ work stoppage ends it sure figures to be a long losing season if the pitching staff isn't significantly upgraded.

True. See what they can do.

Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see the Twins do exactly what you are advocating.  It is what they did with Pineda; signed him to two years knowing he wouldn't pitch right away and wanting the 2nd year to be good.  This is exactly the type of pitcher the Twins have been picking up for awhile now.  I can see them signing Duffy, Pineda, and maybe one other short termer and calling it an off season.  A trade is looking less and less likely, unless this lockout ends soon.

Hopefully they can be negotiating trades during the lockout, then pull the trigger when the lockout ends.

It looks like the dog is chasing his tail again for the Twins again. Or are the Pohlads taking a lot cash out of the Twins and selling the Twins? The Twins sure didn’t learn any about what happened in 2021. However. If the lockout isn’t solved it won’t matter. I was under the impression that ownership couldn’t have communication with each other during the lockout?

My understanding is teams can communicate and even come to terms on trades during the lockout. It's the owners locking out the players. So team officials are still in their offices plugging away, but they can't speak to players or their reps and players aren't allowed in team facilities.

Teams have to be able to talk to each other during the lock out.  They will have to decided on a CBA to end it.  Manfred is only the voice from the teams, but the teams owners need to vote.  They clearly would be able to discuss trades and the like as well.  They can trade and sign minor league guys that are not on 40 man rosters as well because they are not MLBPA people.  The lockout just prevents doing business with players or doing actual trades of them, but teams can discuss frameworks of deals.

My guess is when the lockout ends, you will hear many trades happen and within a few days a lot of signings.  I do not expect the lockout to end until at least March, because neither side is looking at losing money until then.

I don’t think the Twins have the roster space to be able to sit on Duffy. They would need an open space, sign him, then after opening day 60 day him, then when he’s healthy DFA someone.

sure there’s roster churn (something we’re certain to see in ‘22) but with the current state, all hands will need to be on-deck.

there’s no one on the staff that will pitch 150 innings for the Twins in ‘22. Optimistically they acquire 1, maybe 2…. Hopefully that’s “Good innings”but we’ll see… That means lots of guys will need to pitch 80-100 innings and Duffy ain’t gonna be one of ‘em…
