Several months ago, user @mikelink45 contacted me via private message and asked "why don't we have a debate forum on Twins Daily?"

I didn't have a good answer to that question, as the idea of such a thing had never crossed my mind. Roll forward to today and we're excited to announce the Head 2 Head Debate Forum!

The premise is simple: two Twins Daily users - names obscured to prevent bias in voting - square off on a single topic over the course of a week and the Twins Daily community votes on the winner afterward. There will be rules limiting the frequency of posts and the number of rebuttals in an attempt to streamline this process into an easily-digestible debate for reading and voting. We will only host one debate at a time and the frequency of the debates entirely depends on user interest in both participation and voting. We have a few topics already lined up with interested users but our community will be the ones deciding most of the topics and participants once everyone familiarizes themselves with the operation of the forum.

Note: to keep everyone on topic and focused, there are a few differences between this forum and most other forums on Twins Daily: users cannot create topics in this forum, nor can they respond to posts until the debate is complete, at which point the debate thread becomes a free-for-all for everyone to participate in the topic.

If you're interested in the rules, topics, or participating, please jump over to the H2H forum right now and check out the initial series of posts explaining the rules, how to suggest a topic, and how to participate!

I love it.  One of my pleasures on TD is when I get comments and discussions - and often other opinions.  This could be really fun - Go Eddie Rosario!

It's a really great idea, thanks for suggesting it to me!

I believe the use of RP, the length of SP appearances, who cares about exit velocity and especially how far a HR was hit?  Who are all those coaches and what do they do? Which coaches are the most important.  .How soon should prospects be called up? How do we shorten games?  What needs to be done to get the popularity of the sport back?  Oh the options.

How will this work?  Will you put up a topic or will the topics come from the posters? If I say, and believe, the baseball is sliding down to the level of hockey public support and interest does that constitute the beginning? I am really worried about our sport. I'm sitting in the Portland airport and just talked with Dave bartender here and his response when I said that I was looking forward to the world series tonight was "I do not interested in baseball anymore it's just the pitcher and the batter and nothing else counts.

Length of game lack of action, lack of drama, and people are leaving the sport that have watched it as a general interest viewing over the years. I know that baseball is trying to react, but it's too slow and the question is is it too late.

Here is the format and rules:

Here is where you can request a topic:

If you check out the forum itself, there are already future topics with one participant, just waiting for an opponent to throw their hat in the ring.

The first H2H debate is now live ... opening statements tonight, Poster A will submit a rebuttal post tomorrow, Poster B on Tuesday, Poster A again on Wednesday, Poster B on Thursday; then both will give a closing statement on Friday. Each of the posts will go live (approx) the same time each evening ... then on Saturday, we will open the debate up for voting. Hoping to get the next one started next week ... so ... if you are so inclined ... we await your PM saying you want a go at it :)
