Twins Video

Two young live arms are now part of the Twins. The M & M boys part 2. May and Meyers in 2015. Hicks in 2013 and Buxton on the fast track in 2014 along with Sano. T Ryan should keep looking for stop gap solutions at team friendly terms until the young guns arrive. Diamond, Pelfrey, Worley, Correia, Gibson and whomever else Ryan picks up along the way. When Morneau is gone then we have money to look for bigger and better arms for today. Keep the faith.

The Twins have money right now. Hopefully Morneau would want to come back in 2014.

Please don't make any excuses for the Twins not spending money on good FA this season.

Parmelee can hopefully produce at the new Morneau level 19-77-.267 and over 100k's. Much cheaper option for these numbers. Unfortunatelly concussions do cause long term problems and he will never be the MVP again. Throwing money all over the place is'nt the answer either. Do you really think T. Ryan is done? Good free agents? Your definition of one is who that would fit into team payroll? Last time I checked top free agents demad longer contracts, more money and want to go to wnning teams. We are rebuilding and need to be selective on contracts and pick up pieces to the puzzle as they come available. Just my opinion but T Ryan is on the right path.

Parmelee is a hugh risk. He may make it or not. We have others coming, but would rather have Morneau if he can still produce and wants to be here. Contract would have to be closer to 10 mil a year however.

Is a good free agent pitcher one who has won more games than they lost? Pitches every 5th day for 6 innings? Or is the sole determinant of a good pitcher their ERA or xfip?

Fangraphs calls a good player one with a WAR above three. For pitchers that would have been Sachez and Grienke. Neither were going to come here. Sanchez used the Cubs to get his deal with Detroit. There is no middle infield help that qualifies as a good player. So is your definition of good one that is average?

I couldn't agree more old nurse. Arms are a crapshoot. How many times arm pitchers hurt after receiving large contracts. For what Johan has done since leaving the Twins would he have been worth the money even though we have nothing to show for the trade? I don't think so. Right now quantity and maybe finding a trade partner for a number 2 is all we can ask until the young guys are ready. No excuses for not spending money but the contract has to make sense.

I guess I can make a play off your title. Of course the future is bright because the present is so dim with the hope that the Twins don't lose 100 games in 2013.

I can't argue with that but you have to start somewhere. You can't throw money at bigger name guys and hope. Keep financial flexibility and let the Hicks, Bensons, Gibsons, and any other younger guys ready by mid year get their feet wet. Maybe 2013 will be another tough year but the foundation is looking better for the future. Add May, Meyers, Sano, Buxton and hopefully the financial flexibility will allow T Ryan to put other pieces in place.

your definition of quality please. Do you really think top free agents are going to sign with Twins right now. Get real. If we spend 60 million on 1 guy then we have 3 players with bloated contracts.

Looks like the Twins are going to back up about 8 yards and PUNT on the 2013 season.... these free agent signings are just a 2 year stop gap fill-in till our minor league pitchers are worthy

2015....

CF Hicks

2B Rosario

1B Mauer

LF Arcia

3B Sano

RF Buxton

DH Doumit?

SS Micheal

C Pinto?

Rotation

Meyer

May

Gibson

Berrios

Hendriks/Bard/Hermsen/someone else...

all potential.... Not much proven but its a promising future. Might not amount to much more than KC had with all their prospects coming up.

There is hope with that lineup and there will be free agents and trades that will fill the gaps. If the Twins can pitch just a little this year and start playing D again things may turn a bit sooner. I like Morneau but with that contract gone T Ryan will have more money to spend if they start to compete above expectations this year. Lets face it, 2 center fielders gone, Hicks will be given a shot to stick. 2nd base?, starting pitching? Your guess is as good as mine but if the Twins can play 500 ball to the all-star break, if we have financial flexibility arms will be available.
