1980 Miracle on Ice.  Not technically a MN event, but since Minnesota claims any connection (they adopted a pet who was born in Minnesota) and the team did actually have a strong Minnesota presence.   It was probably one of the biggest things from my home town to have someone on the team including big celebrations when he returned to town.

Strange to think that night we were not even watching the game live, since it had played that afternoon, but the results had not leaked out.  Cannot imagine that happening now.  The championship against Finland was actually on Sunday morning (we almost late for my sister's confirmation - a lot of people walking in last minute).

Great addition.  I tried to think of a hockey event that really stood out to me.  The closest was when the North Stars 1991 beat Edmonton Oilers in conference championship.  I was at that game and it was amazing, but then Norm took the NS to Dallas and I lost all connections.  The Wild still have not grabbed my attention.  Gopher hockey does not register with me, but UMD winning the championship is great.

Timberwolves have been so disappointing.  I enjoyed the first years the best even though they were losing - Mussleman had them really trying and the Gophers best team was the scandal ridden them of Haskins that had it record erased for violations.

You are so  right.  That was the worst trade in so many ways.  Everytime I hear Walker's name I shudder.  But it does belong. 

All but two were New York City Centric. He couldn’t even list the 1980 Miracle on Ice because Lake Placid NY is too far from the big city.

He was constrained by the assignments he was given.  Everything was an event he covered.
