Blow It Up? (Sort Of)

A lot of you probably won't like this, but I'm ready for a big shakeup this offseason. Being a great regular season team that does absolutely zero in the playoffs doesn't sit well with me. At some point, they have to accept that maybe these guys just don't have what it takes to perform on the biggest stage.

I'd make everyone available (offensively) except Donaldson, Arraez, Buxton, the catchers, and maybe Sano. Other than that, I'd make a full blown effort to resign Cruz and usher in the Royce Lewis, Alex Kiriloff, and Brent Rooker era. Go sign an experienced bat or something, I don't know, but something has got to change.

Pitching staff kills, so even adding Bauer, which some speculate might happen, would not matter much because the pitching was fantastic in the playoffs. It just seems like these guys have no killer instinct, which is obviously not a tangible thing, but there are definitely guys you see rise to the occasion on the biggest stages.

Lastly, as I'm typing this, Jake Odorizzi came onto the field postgame and was just taking it all in and now I'm in my feels, gotta go drink a sad beer. Goodnight Twins fans.

I don't completely disagree but I think we need to retool rather than rebuild. I really like the moves the front office has been making in the past few years. Signing Odorizzi, Signing Cruz, Trading for Maeda, Signing Donaldson. I can't remember the last time our Rotation has been this good and our Core group of hitters is good. I agree with most of the guys you said Sano, Buxton, Cruz, Arraez Donaldson, and I would also add in Kepler (he didn't have great year but OPS was still decent and it his AB's in the playoffs were good) I think if they can resign Cruz and then add some more pitching especially in the bullpen this team is very dangerous. I wish they would sign Bauer but I feel like it is wishful thinking. I think this is still a good team but damn I'm so tired of getting my heart ripped out. I would also like if they could resign Odorizzi and May but sadly I don't think they will. But I couldn't stand watching Polanco this year and I would love to see Royce Lewis and AK over Rosario and Polanco.

Joey as I watched these past two games I was thinking the same thing that there needs to be some change to the "core" players. They have tried tough love with this group "Gardy" they have tried " New School approach" with Rocco and neither has seemed to trigger that edge that is needed in pressure situations. I agree with NDTwins Fan a rebuild will be tough to stomach but a retool is needed. Keep JD, Buck, Luis, and Sano and Cruz if he wants but man his body language in dugout seemed like he was over it hope I'm wrong. Lewis, and Rooker, and Kiroloff need to see what is up and if they are the next group to possibly move this team forward cause this current group has been giving plenty of opportunities to do so and unfortunately seems to not be working.

Don’t forget Trevor Larnach. Next Spring is time for serious competition at SS, Corner Outfield and 1B. Marwin should be gone along with Ehire and Avila. Cave, Tortuga, Kepler and Rosario will have to win a spot on this team. Rotation will excel with Maeda, Berrios, Pineda and a bounceback from Odo. The pen needs only one or two tweaks and competition too.

It’s time for many Twins players to prove themselves next Spring or it’s bye-bye. .

Save a ton of money by letting Cruz (c'mon people he's 40 plus and production bound to fall off a cliff), Rosario, Gonzalez, Adrianza and Avila go.

Replace them with Rooker, Kiriloff, Larnach, Lewis and Jeffers.

Lewis at SS, Polanco assumes Marwyn's utility role.

Could probably dump Cave as well and have a Rohrtvedt or Blankenhorn on the roster

DH by committee.

Reinvest savings in an extended Buxton and Berrios and starting pitcher X.

Lets see if the kids can play.

Are we all in agreement that Eddie's on the way out. His antics and lack of producing in clutch moments and sometimes totally worrying about only Eddie has ran it's course...... or just could be me lol... is he still under contract for 2021 or RFA????

I don't disagree with the idea of shaking things up.  They should "consider" any of these possibilities.

1.  Re-sign Cruz for two years.  He's worth it.  he's in great shape.  Good grief, he was the only hitter they had in this playoff.

2.  Sign Trevor Bauer and pay for it with the 18-million you will save from Odorizzi and then some.  It may take $25-$30 million a year for Bauer.  Bauer, Maeda, Berrios & Pineda would be a tremendous #1-#4.  Figure out #5 & #6.

3.  Explore trade possibilities for Rosario, Sano & BUXTON.  It's time to move on from Eddie.  It just is.  Sano is SO wildly inconsistent.  I thought 2019 he learned a lot from Cruz.  In 2020 he showed he hadn't.  Buxton is my controversial choice.  He's a tremendous CF and his power seems to be emerging.  Still, his SPEED is his #1 asset and he and Rocco can't figure out how to apply it.  He's ALWAYS got something physically ailing him and it always affects his play and/or ability to get on the field.  I'm ready to move on from Eddie and Sano, but I'd like to see what other teams would give up for Buxton.  If I don't like it, he's my CF'er.  If I do, Kepler is in CF, Rooker in LF and Kiriloff in RF.

4.  Is Boston serious about trading Bogaerts ??  If so, I'd talk Polanco and others.  Maybe Boston would be interested in Sano as well in a blockbuster.

5.  The bullpen has pieces but May, Romo, Clippard etc...probably won't be back.

This was a strange year.  Maybe the Twins shouldn't "overreact."  But as a fan I've seen the same crap out of Sano, Rosario, Polanco over and over again.  You have 3 young emerging hitters in Kiriloff, Rooker and Larnach.  They play corner OF spots and 1B.  Moving Rosario and Sano opens up two of those spots.  You can afford Bauer if you leverage the lower salaries of the rookies for a couple of years.  Be bold this off season.  Consider nearly EVERYTHING.

Twins were here last year, had checkbook in hand to pay for top pitching and no one wanted to come to Minnesota. It will not be as easy as just paying top dollar for a top pitcher. Maeda worked out great this year, someone like him, that is a little under appreciated. Position players, I am in for a overhaul, but maybe not to the extent your asking for, a youth movement with prospects. I am not in for Cruz, major drop off last month, is that a sign of things to come, definitely not 2 year contract.

Actually even Aaron Gleeman has alluded to this. Two postseasons against two teams that didn't even boast the top of the leagues's starting pitching and guys like Eddie, Kepler, Polanco, Sano etc. have done absolutely nothing. It's fair to question whether these guys for whatever reason just lack the ability to hit in the pressures in the postseason. Gleeman talked about possibly shopping Garver, Sano and even Kepler.

Eddie is gone, that's just a given at this point. Expect the Twins to pursue an extension with Kirilloff this winter to avoid service time issues for starting him on Opening Day in 2021.

They'll definitely approach Cruz but if he wants multiple years I'd guess they let him sign elsewhere. They've already been burned on the risky Donaldson contract. I can't see them taking a leap on an aging slugger again, especially given Cruz's injures and struggles to end the season. There's a non zero chance somebody signs him for $18 million and he turns into Edwin Encarnacion next year.

The Twins should be focusing on the younger prospects given their caliber. The core of Sano, Kepler, Polanco etc. aren't toast or anything, it's still a good core to have. I just think after two crash and burn failures that it may be a good idea to give some new faces a chance to see if they can come in and hit the reset button. A few of our prospects have the ability to be the face of this team. If ever there were a time to take a leap, it's now.

Willians won't be here next season. No way he survives the 40 man roster turnover. Cave is either back on the MLB roster as the LF or 4th OF, or is traded. He's done being sent down. Kepler doesn't have to fight for a spot yet, he signed an extension not long ago. He could be traded, sure, but if he isn't, he is your RF next year for the 110 times we face a righty. Rosario is likely gone. Maeda, Berrios, Pineda is a good start, but I think adding a guy like Bauer is crucial to take the next step.

2020 was difficult on most us, including players. We put a lot of stock in Donaldson, when he`s not available, we have a gaping hole. Unfortunately he was laid up before & during the wild card series. We are a confident team especially defensively that seeps into the offensive. We are a different team w/ him, it`s too bad we are so dependent on him when his health is questionable. I expect some players will be let go or traded justly & unjustly so
