Twins Video

blog-0782287001527558612.jpgListening to Seattle series there was Chris Hermann catcher for seattle. His only game, 1 - 4. So then I got wondering about other Twins catchers or prospects since we are worried about our catching futures.

Now I might have missed some, but his is what I found and if you look at the overall quality there is only one true star catcher on the list.

  1. Wilson Ramos – hitting 310 with 6HR for Tampa Bay
  2. Kurt Suzuki – 264 – 6HR - Atlanta
  3. Mitch Garver – 220 2HR – Twins
  4. Drew Butera – 181 – 1 HR – KC
  5. John Ryan Murphy – 246 – 5 HR – AZ
  6. Jason Castro – 143 – 1 HR – MN
  7. Bobby Wilson – 143 – 1 HR – MN
  8. Chris Herman – Seattle – 1 game.

I am still trying to figure out why everyone was so glad to get rid of Suzuki. Oh yeah - framing.

Well, however you measure things we have a pretty low success rate in catching.

There is also John Hicks with the TIgers. Although after the Twins signed him a few years ago, I don't think he ever played a regular season game for the team. For Detroit this year he has also played first base. Now batting .279 with a .326 OBP -- but has 5 home runs and 17 RBI already.

Amazing what Suzuki is doing at age 33 and 34 with Atlanta. Almost 500 at bats and a 127 OPS+. Don't think you can blame the Twins for that one - he showed no indication that he had this in him. Literally his two best hitting seasons are coming at ages 33 and 34. Insane.

Good to see JRM hitting. He was never as bad as he seemed for the Twins - he'd hit in MLB and MiLB before. Glad it's happening in the NL.

I have to say that not being into all the new pitch framing I was never that upset with Suzuki when he was here.

I'll add that Suzuki was awfully streaky with the Twins, and we got fooled by early season success from him once, too. Let's see where those stats sit late in the year.
