Twins Minor League Report (7/16): Lots of Ks for Twins MiLB Batters

One final day off for the Minnesota Twins before they are back in action to begin the second half of the season. With no Major League Baseball, the Minor Leagues take center stage.   RED WINGS REPORT Lehigh Valley IronPigs vs. Rochester Red Wings Box Score   Thanks to nine shutout innings from the Red Wings pitching staff, Rochester dealt Lehigh Valley's Aaron Nola his first AAA loss of the season. The Red Wings rode another strong Tyler Duffey (4-4) start to victory. Duffey went six innings g

2011 Minnesota Twins First Round Draft Pick Levi Michael

This article was originally posted at Knuckleballsblog.com.   The last time the Twins were any good (2010) they were swept out of the post season once again by the New York Yankees. The Twins finished that season with 84 wins, 4th best in all of baseball. They were rewarded for their success with the 30th selection in the 2011 draft. With that pick they selected Levi Michael. At the time of the draft Levi Michael and the University of North Caroline Tar Heels were playing their way into the Coll

TwinsDaily Minor League Report (4/14): Kohl Stewart Looks Like an Ace

Taylor Rogers, an eleventh round pick in 2012 out of the University of Kentucky, made his MLB debut this afternoon against the Chicago White Sox. Rogers pitched 0.2 innings and gave up just one hit. Rogers spent all of 2015 with the Red Wings as a starter, compiling an 11-12 record with a 3.98 ERA. Finished off the 2015 season with 25 innings in the Arizona Fall League, going 2-2 with a 2.88 ERA but struggled with command walking 11 hitters. TwinsDaiy Minor League Report (8/7): Omar Bencomo is Awesome!

If the season started 10 games ago, the Twins would have the second best record in the American League. Too bad the twins have been terrible for the better part of four months. To make things worse, the Twins sent struggling Byron Buxton to Rochester to make room for Trevor Plouffe who is activated from the Disabled List.   Continue reading to find out more detail about Saturday in the Twins farm system:   RED WINGS REPORT Rochester @ Lehigh Valley IronPigs Box Score   Byung Ho Park had anot

The End of Nick Blackburn

Originally posted at Knuckleballs. Yesterday afternoon 32,261 baseball fans were treated to a 4.1 inning performance fromNick Blackburn in which more batters hit home runs (2) than struck out (1). Before he was yanked midway through the 5th inning, Blackburn faced 23 batters, and gave up 10 hits and 8 runs (all earned). Unfortunately for Twins fans, this marked Blackburn’s 8th start of 2012 in which he gave up 5 or more earned runs and failed to get through the 6th inning. In fact, Blackburn

What to do with Kurt Suzuki?

Kurt Suzuki is out producing the expectations of even the most optimistic Twins fan. He’s 30 years old and coming in to 2014 had a career line of .253/.309/.375, and even that is rosy considering what he’s done the past two seasons, .234/.282/.332 (for reference, Talk to Contact favorite, Drew “Boat Anchor” Butera, is hitting .231/.300/.385 in 2014). So the Twins bought low on a guy and brought him in with the hopes that he could help out Josmil Pinto, and because Suzuki is seen as a good “clu

TwinsDaily Minor League Report (4/21): Berrios Dominates and Jay Lights Up Radar

Last year the Twins selected Tyler Jay, a college closer from the University of Illinois, with their first selection in the draft. Jay spent the rest of 2015 in the bullpen, but has been stretched out and is starting games for the Fort Myers Miracle. You will find more about his start below, but I wanted to lead with this gem from Seth Stohs, Sounds like Jay is having no problems maintaining his velocity late into his start.   Transaction Report: The Chattanooga Lookouts activated shortstop Enge

2012 Review: Twins Rookies

This article was originally posted at Knuckleballsblog.com.   Last night, Bryce Harper and Mike Trout were awarded the Rookie of the Year awards, in the National and American League, respectively. Harper and Trout did amazing things as rookies, and in the case of Mike Trout, had the best season a rookie has ever had. Harper helped the Washington Nationals win their division, and Trout did his part to keep the Los Angeles Angels relevant until the final week of the season. Minnesota Twins, on

Twins Minor League Report (8/21): Sam Gibbons says Hello!

The Minnesota Twins resumed their winning ways and came up with a 4-1 victory against one of the hottest pitchers in baseball. The Twins ended a 20-inning scoreless drought when Kennys Vargas homered to give the Twins a 1-0 lead in the forth off of Corey Kluber. The Twins picked up a couple more runs against Kluber and thanks to a magnificent performance from Phil Hughes the Twins cruised to victory.   Red Wings Report Rochester 1, Syracuse 1, Suspended - Rain Box   The game in Syracuse was

TwinsDaily Minor League Report (9/19): Kernels' Navarreto Walks-Off Whitecaps

The Twins lost both ends of a split double header and find themselves two and a half games behind the Astros for the second wild card spot. Now losers of five straight, the Twins are also a game behind the Angels and just a game and a half ahead of the Indians, all fighting for that final postseason spot.   In the Minor Leagues, both the Cedar Rapids Kernels and the Chattanooga Lookouts returned home for the third game of their Championship Series. Let's see how things went.   Biloxi Shuckers @

TwinsDaily Minor League Report (6/16) - Pitching Carries Trio of MiLB Squads

The Twins were way out on the left coast, and now that they are back at home, they lost to a bad Yankees team. Yuck-o. After the game the Twins activated Danny Santana from the Disable List and to make room for him the Twins decided that they could not solve the riddle of Oswaldo Arcia and designated him for assignment. Seth Stohs has more on that. Continue reading to find out more detail about Thursday in the Twins farm system:   RED WINGS REPORT Columbus Clippers @ Rochester Box Score   The

The Minnesota Twins exploded for six runs in the top of the tenth inning after they squandered three early game runs and beat the Kansas City Royals. Jordan Schafer continues to hit the ball well for the Twins, and had three more hits on Thursday against Kansas City.   Down in the Minor Leagues the season is entering the final weekend, let's take a look at the Affiliates.   Red Wings Report Rochester 6, Syracuse 3 Box   The Red Wings took the lead late (in the seventh) to defeat the Syracuse

Twins Minor League Report (7/2): Miguel Sano Debuts

Miguel Sano made his MLB debut on Thursday evening and (of course) picked up his first career hit via an infield single in the top of the ninth inning at Kauffman stadium in Kansas City. He's a huge young man, just starting his (hopefully) huge MLB career. Oh, and the Twins won thanks to a spectacular eight-inning shutout from Kyle Gibson capped by a Glen Perkins save.   RED WINGS REPORT Red Wings vs. Lehigh Valley IronPigs Box Score   Rochester and Lehigh Valley were scoreless through four and

Twins Minor League Report (4/23): Gonsalves Gon' Save Us!

The Twins were off on Thursday, so a lot of people spent a lot of time trying to figure out what the heck Torii Hunter was doing when he scampered towards home plate on Wednesday night, attempting a straight steal of home.
