Trade for or sign a starting pitcher

Creative Ways Falvey and Levine acquire prospects:

The Dynamic Duo have brought a creativity towards acquiring prospects that even Terry Ryan who was the master of acquiring prospects never thought of. The first example is one of my favorites.  With Ohtani on the market and notifying the Twins they would not be one of the finalists for his services Falvine went and traded their extra international spending cap space for 2 prospects.  They traded 1 million in cap space to the Anaheim Angels of Los Angeles for Pearson a 2nd round draft pick a

Is there a way to calculate the Value of "Fan Favorite"

Since Arreaz was traded for Lopez and a top 100 prospect and a lotto ticket prospect.  There are lots of people here writing how disappointed they were.  I am disappointed even though I know the trade was a good one.  With so many people not happy how will that affect the Twins and for how long?  Is there a bell curve to show how team revenues or attendance changes after popular players leave the organization after a trade?  Do the TV ratings drop as well?   I am sure some players wont change th

Community Pitching Coach project for Fixing a Twins Pitcher

I thought it might be fun for the community to come together to help one of the Twins Pitchers.  (Josh Winder, Trevor Megill, Pagan, or Lopez) become the pitcher he was meant to be.  For us to do that we need members to post scouting reports, pitching repertoire, heat maps, and videos, and more below and discuss how we as a community would fix this pitcher to make him better.  Whether you want to remove an ineffective pitch from his arsenal, add a pitch, change pitch use patterns, is he tipping

The Bench (Its a huge team strength gone unnoticed)

When you think of players on the bench, usually there is a reason they are on the bench.  Usually the bench players can field really well but not hit, or they hit and can't field, or they have severe platoon splits.  Whatever the reason its there, they are not able to be successful enough as everyday players.  Looking at our bench we have players that fit that mold in one shape or another.  but when you look at the production we are getting from our bench players you have to take notice and appr

My Realistic Offseason: Sign Cruz, Matz, Pineda

I did this when it first came out.  but with more information heading into the offseason I changed things around. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yAVU-C2u6hY40oiAI3cGh1eEU82GHYJXfDORGJxnERY/edit?usp=sharing I originally had us signing Taylor to be our SS.  But with his name becoming more front and center.  I also have read the Twins are willing to consider bringing back Simmons and he was a gold glove caliber SS.  So I brought him back at a base of 8.00 million.  Galvis or Vill

Fun Stat for the day

I was going through baseball reference and landed on former Twin Ryan Pressley.  The pitcher most similar too him in terms of results was Nick Vincent who we just let go.  Also there were 4 former Twins as his best comp. (Burton, Dyson, Guerrier, and Vincent)  The Twins definitely like a certain type of relief pitcher.  Or at least a certain type of result....  No meaning to this just thought it was a fun with numbers thing and fun to stroll down memory lane.

2022 team is mostly set up at this point

Just a quick rundown of who is available on our roster with team control for next year.  It seems next year's team is already close to complete with what we have already.  On the offensive side the 2 real ?s are CF and SS can we get Buxton signed to an extension?  and do we sign a SS allstar in FA or resign Simmons for another season at a much lower rate and wait for Lewis to come up?  of course the other consideration is do we sign Cruz to another 1 year contract? On the Pitching side ther

Starting Over with a New Minimum Floor Rotation and How do the Twins Proceed from There.

With the rotation in shambles with the failure of Shoemaker and Happ and the ineffectiveness of Dobnak and his injury which put the Twins in a hole where they were best served trading their best pitcher Berrios.  The Twins are now working on a new floor for the rotation, so they have something to work with going into the offseason.  As of now the rotation for 2022 is setting up to be Maeda and ???? To start setting the floor the Twins kept Pineda and there is talk he could sign an extension

A lone star proposal

Here is a thought.  Why not Acquire Gibson and someone like John King to give us another reliever.  That would give us Pitching to see if we can get back into the race this year and allow us to keep our core to compete next year too.  Sometimes we don't need to trade the core and rebuild.  but what would we need to give up?  Gibson is not only a solid pitcher we are familiar with but a cheap one too as he makes only 7.66 million next year on a front loaded contract.  I am thinking a package arou

Next Offseason's Budget and an Ace... We Can Afford One!

Next offseason we have 6 free agents (Cruz DH 13 million, Pineda SP 10 million, Happ SP 8 million, Simmons SS 10,500,000, Robles RP 2 million, and Shoemaker SP 2 million) and a team option on Colome RP 5 million. Or 3 Starting Pitchers, 2 Relievers, DH and SS for a total 2021 salary of 45.5 million coming off the books next offseason.   For our rotation we already have Berrios, Maeda, Dobnak as established starters. We only need to fill two spots. Dobnak’s 800,000 salary will likely be replac

4 Year Window?

It seems like the Twins are settling in on a 4-year window of being competitive. Last year the Twins signed 2 of their core players to 5-year contracts totaling just over 60 million. Note, they now have 4 years left on those extensions. Just a few days ago the wins signed Sano to an extension that has a guaranteed 3-year extension with a 4th year option. The Twins are looking to sign Donaldson to a 4-year contract as well. I am beginning to think the longer Donaldson doesn’t sign the better our

Fun with HR numbers

I remember in 1987 the Twins came within 2 HRs of having 4 players hit 30 HRs on the same team in the same season. Hrbeck 34, Brunanski 32, Gaetti 31 and Puckett 28. The Dodgers 1977 team with Baker, Cey, Garvey and Reggie Smith achieved this once.   fast forward to 2019 and boy do i just feel a lot older....but this Twins team currently has Cruz with 32 and Kepler with 33 HRs already. Rosario is at 27 and both Sano and Garver are at 23. The Twins could end up with 5 players with 30 Hrs.

1 XBH per 10 AB

What exactly is this and what does it mean? Well This is an over simplistic formula I use when looking at a power hitters performance. You are basically looking to see if the total number of extra base hits = a .100 batting average. You don’t even have to do the full math just know if it’s going to be more or less or on par, making it real easy to calculate. And its more fun right now then examining the Twins season this year! I realize there are better stats like slugging percentage, OPS, O

Blame Game "Who is at fault" in the Rotation

There has been a lot of talk on here calling for Terry Ryan to get fired. I disagree with that assesment and instead of arguing i figured to make the scenarios into a game of who is at fault? Terry Ryan, The player, or something else....Also I will make this a series starting with the rotation today then the bullpen, IF and C, then OF and prospects.   In 2013 Terry Ryan signed Phil Hughes to a 3 year 24 million contract. in 2014 he posted strong numbers and basically justified the whole contract
