First and foremost I would like to wish my brother a Happy 30TH Birthday today! You are and always will be my favorite person to talk baseball with. If it weren't for Beloit losing in the 11th inning tonight, the Twins would have given you clean sweep across all four levels for your birthday present. Regardless, I hope you enjoyed your day. The Day-by-Day's make their glorious return tonight. My apologies as my 9 day streak of working over 100 hours caught up to me. Everything is updated through the games of May 16th. I will continue to update these as frequently as possible. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AiRVhKu18uIhdDBSYUc5UGtSMkluOEFSWFdnTVdvQVE&output=html
Through the first 30 games of the season, I am unsure what is more surprising. Twins 8-22 record, or that record only means they are 9 games out of first place, OR that the 1st place team is NOT Detroit. Cleveland is the only team over .500 at 17-13. Detroit played some difficult opponents in April (Boston, Tampa, Texas, New York), however after tonight's loss, they have gone 2-5 against Seattle. Now I'm not signaling there is hope for the Twins, it's just very apparent how miserable the AL Cent
Hitter of the Day: Miguel Sano - 3B - BEL - A: 1-4 HR (10), 2 RBI, 1 R; Not a great night for any hitter tonight, but Sano now leads the Organization in HR, with Willingham in 2nd with half that amount (5). I know it's early May, and he has 39 strikeouts (countered with 20 walks) and really needs help at 3B, but a call to Fort Myers is sooner rather than later seems inevitable. There really is no reason to push him, I'd like to see him continue to dominate down in Beloit, but he is simply a ma

As a heads up, I will try my best to continue this on a daily basis, but this next week requires me to be working my 2nd job (as an Usher at Target Field) every night so I may not be able to update nightly as I have thus far. I mistakenly labeled my last blog the day-by-day for April 26, but today is the actual 4/26 update. The Twins had a much needed day off. As I'm sure we're all aware of now, Pitching Coach Rick Anderson had a 20 minute, closed-door meeting with all pitchers and both catchers to discuss the current state of the staff. It's really hard to say how effective these meetings are, but if nothing else, this proves to everyone that the fans are not the only people disgusted by the play of the pitchers, pa
Twins lose another heartbreaker. Leave 13 men on base, struggle to get that one important hit with guys on base late in the game. As I was watching, and hoping for a comeback, I tempered my expectations for the team. Normally I'll think to myself "If we can pull this win off, we could start a serious run here." Unfortunately, this year, I struggle to see how this team can win 5 in a row or 9 of 10. Not saying they won't have winning streaks of anything past 2 (season long for 2012), but with thi
It's late. I've worked both my jobs two days in a row, going on a 3rd. The Twins forgot to play tonight and thus my recap and commentary will be non-existent Minor League teams won all 3 of their games. Rochester got rained out. I'm going to switch back to posting a link to the Google Docs instead of "embedding" it in the blog post. Not sure who is reading this, if anyone, but I plan on updating this all season long, so if you read this and have a preference of Google Doc vs. Embedding let
Not much to say after game like tonight for the Twins. Down early, good comeback, Marquis gives up a HR to Ross, Capps gives up a 2nd HR to Ross to lose it. Thankfully this is only a few games the bullpen has let them down, however, this could also be a sign of things to come. We'll see... Down on the farm wasn't much more successful. Rochester had a scheduled day off, otherwise the other 3 teams lost. No great single player performances. Everyone just had a case of the Mondays. . . Here is
Twins lose the game, the series and the road trip. There are 3 games left in the tough 19 game stretch (if you for some reason include Baltimore). With a series win against Boston at home, they will either go 7-12 or 8-11 in those 19 games. Like I mentioned before, that would be acceptable in my mind. Down on the farm, Scott Diamonds impresses against division leader Lehigh Valley, upping his record to 4-0 and is quickly becoming the favorite SP to be the first to be called up. With Liriano's
Tough loss for the Twins tonight, getting outmatched by one of the best, if not most underrated pitchers, James Shields. With the help of his arsenal of pitches featuring one of the best changeups in the games, he goes 8+ Innings, 7 strikeouts, 2 walks 5 hits and 1 earned run (while Rodney was pitching). First game in a while the bats didn't come alive, which gives more credit to Shields. Rubber match tomorrow and the Twins are depending on Liriano's left arm and full mind to get the series win.
Another comeback victory from the parent club. I have no research to back me, but it seems to me this team has had more success coming back late in games and not giving up. Given how much was talked about losing character guys, especially Cuddyer, this group has really shown some fight early in the season. There have been a handful games they had no shot in winning, but others they ended up losing that they had no business even being close. Tonight's another example. After a devastating home run
Twins score early, but couldn't come up later in the game to get another run or two to get a win. Regardless, splitting the 4 game series in New York after the series sweep against Texas is a good sign. Starting pitching obviously needs a fix, and I don't see where that's coming from. Down on the farm, the losing trend continues as it is the first day in the 2012 season that all 4 teams in the organization, MLB down to A, lose a game. Sano blasts his 6th home run and proves his power is not ju
Twins do it again in New York. Win 2 of the first 3 guaranteeing at least a split against the Yankees in the Bronx. Marquis struggled early on, understandably with his emotions of 1st game back after his daughter's bike accident, first game as a Twins and first start in New York, his boyhood team. Thankfully the bats were alive early and got him the lead. He held them in the 1st thanks to a double play, and they continued to stay in the game, but never got the big hit to take the lead. Capps mad
I really hold back what I would like to say about then payroll arguments here. The fact that people don't accept the amount taken in dictates the amount going out requires one of two things. Extreme financial ignorance or fanatical bias that prevents the acceptance of something some basic. I did not change the argument. It's the same idiocy over and over. Do you really want to be on the side that suggests revenues does not determine spending capacity?
At this point in the pre-season, I’m just so happy to be seeing games again, I don’t care about the Twins record in 2023. I think they’ll win it all, unrealistically speaking 🙂
