Twins' Trade Chips (targets?)

With a whole 3 to 4 months of hot stove upon us (depending on your water cup viewpoint), what better to do than speculate on what the Twins will be able to do during that time? A big topic of interest on TwinsDaily has been the potential trade market for pitching; specifically, Homer Bailey. If you happen to live under a rock, the "rotation situation" is desperate for improvement after yet another abysmal attempt. There's quite a few scenarios that the Twins could explore in a player swap that I

Twins Top Prospects

Here are my rankings for the players in the Twins minor league system. Talent and positional value are the biggest factors, while age and league are minor factors. In addition, draft position and size also have some impact. Normally I'd like to use 50, but after 35 I didn't think there were enough worthy of even being considered a prospect. Recently departed Joe Benson is off and so is Aaron Hicks after reaching the 130 AB benchmark. Hope you enjoy and possibly learn a new name!   1. Byron Buxto

Twins Mid-Term Report Cards

The conclusion of the Twins-Red Sox series marks the 1/4 point of the 2013 MLB season. Minnesota has truly had a strange and unexpected season thus far, but, as we all know, small sample sizes can have that effect! Should we be more surprised at how well the Twins have performed as a team? Or at whom has performed? Some of the success stories from last year have faded and at the same time unproven players are exceeding expectations. Let's see how our roster fares!   Catcher: Joe Mauer Significan

2013 Twins Top 50

The 2012 minor league season is over and much will remain quiet in the prospect world for some time. A few players have "graduated" from September call-ups, but from a new standpoint here we go. Unlike last list, a lot of insight was taken from a few other Twins farm followers. This year's performance has is a critical component as is talent. Tools and the other insight as mentioned were the big factors that caused guys like Morales to rise. I know I may do these a little frequently, but just mi

End of the Year Top 50

As the second top 50 I've done this year (cheating?), a LOT has changed. From now on until the end of the year, I don't expect much to change. I've gone through all the stat-sheets on every affiliate and included a few international signings as well. Age, performance, and relative level were all the most important factors. Tools also played a very important part. A player with a .300 BA and no HRs or SBs is not going to get anywhere here. From now on, I'll probably use this as a reference in re

Revere: The #4

As a self-proclaimed visionary, I had a captivating thought about moving Ben Revere to second base. Maybe all the outfield transitions to infield rumors, as in Darin Mastroianni, or the promising results of one in our minor league system, Eddie Rosario, had gotten a grip on me. The more and more I thought about moving Revere, the better it seemed. This is certainly a radical, risky, and perhaps crazy thing to actually attempt, but the results could be extremely pleasing. More over, I'm really su

Cleansing The Twins 40 Man Roster

The Twins are sitting with a nearly filled quota on the 40 man roster and it's somewhat ugly. Only one vacant spot is available while starting pitchers P.J. Walters, Carl Pavano, and Scott Baker are on the 60 day DL. Soon enough, positions on this assembly will need to be cleared in order to make way for these incoming players. For now, it's not a problem, but there are a lot of gentlemen here that could and should be removed sooner rather than later. Priority will of course be assessed for who

State of the Union: A Non-Cohesive Team

The Orioles squeezed out a split in what could be considered a disappointing finish to a four game series that held so much promise. Looking to rebound after a brutal sweep at the hands of the fast rising Athletics, Minnesota stumbled in the final two games. It may be fair to start pointing fingers at this point because of how low the team has fallen in the season. Game 3: Offense scored 1 run off of a pitcher with a 6.11 ERA (who is also right handed). Game 4: Bullpen bounds, slips, and crashes

Trip to Target

Friday the 13th was living up to it's unlucky superstition yesterday. Upon arrival to the Twin Cities, and following a 2 1/2 hour drive, I was greeted by pouring rain and hail. It wasn't long before the poor weather conditions were making a good reflection of my temperament by effect. It had been weeks since I had seen rain and of all days...now?! Fortunately enough, the storm clouds passed and the end result was nothing more than a 15 minute delay.   My seat was in the bleachers just to right o

Twins Top 50 Prospects

This is my assessment of the Twins current minor league system. You'll notice that Liam Hendriks, Brian Dozier, and Chris Parmelee are not included because I no longer consider them prospects. Much of this has been done from a statistical viewpoint and age is another big factor. I listed positions to give a clear cut view of how depth is at each spot. I'd like to give a little credit to shanewahl and TwinkieTown for providing reasonable comparisons to my own. Please enjoy!     1. Miguel Sano, 3B

The New Trevor Plouffe

Trevor Plouffe has been an offensive juggernaut for the Twins recently and has been an instrumental key to the Twins success. The 25 year old (turns 26 on the 15th) third baseman is hitting .348/.400/.760 and has clubbed 3HRs for the month of June. While it's inevitable that Plouffe will come down from that unsustainable line, it's calming to see him performing so well after a horrid start to the inaugural season. In effect, Plouffe has become a regular pencil-in on the Twins daily lineups. He m
