Twins Minor League Report (5/31): Everybody's In First Place! (almost)

The calendar of the year 2015 is turning to June, and the Minnesota Twins have the best record in the American League.   Wait…what?!   There were few who believed that might be case this season, except maybe Terry Ryan, but it’s true and this team has certainly been fun to watch again!   Like their parent club, many of the teams in the Minor Leagues are having great seasons as well as both Rochester and Chattanooga lead their divisions while Cedar Rapids is 33-18 and in second place. Twins Minor League Report (5/24): Milone and Slegers Dominate

All four of the Minnesota Twins affiliates were in action on Sunday afternoon, and along with Major League team, the organization had an undefeated day.   In Rochester, a certain starting pitcher continued his run of AAA dominance, top prospects began and ended the scoring for Chattanooga, Fort Myers got a complete game shutout effort on the hill, and the Cedar Rapids lineup knocked the Twins’ former affiliate around their old ball park.   Read on to find out who did what and where in Sunday’s M

Twins Minor League Report (5/17): Close Battles

In the minors on Sunday every game was a close and hard fought battle, unlike the Minnesota Twins against Chris Archer. There was a dynamic pitching duel in one, and another that went back and forth seemingly every inning. When the dust settled, the Twins affiliates went 2-2 on the day.   There was also some action on the roster front, as one (surprise?) major league was sent to AAA, and a few pitching spots were shuffled.   Read on to find out what happened across all four affiliates!   TRANSAC

Twins Minor League Report (5/10): Lookouts Mash With GM In Attendance

Only two of the Minnesota Twins four full-season affiliates were in action on Sunday afternoon, but there was enough offense provided for all of them by the lineup in Chattanooga lineup as they won their fourth straight game with General Manager Terry Ryan in attendance.   There was also a League ERA leader on the mound looking for his third win of the season.   Read on to find out how it all happened!     RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 1, Louisville 3 Box Score   A Rochester lineup without outfiel

Twins Minor League Report (5/3): Fireworks In Chattanooga

A former first round pick delivered a walk-off victory in Chattanooga on Sunday afternoon, in a game where both teams combined for thirty-hits and twenty-seven runs to provide the most entertaining game of the year. Elsewhere, there were three quality starts from starting pitchers, and standout games from several hitters.   Read on to hear all about the slugfest in Chattanooga, and everything else that happened in Sunday’s action!   RED WINGS REPORT Norfolk 3, Rochester 7 Box Score   Rochester

Twins Minor League Report (4/26): Dean Dominates, Ricky Rehabs

In the minors on Sunday, Twins affiliates saw a solid rehab appearance from starter Ricky Nolasco in Cedar Rapids, and eight dominant innings from a left-hander in Rochester. Multiple games had dramatic finishes, but just one team would bring home a victory. Read on to find out what happened and where!   RED WINGS REPORT Syracuse 4, Rochester 6 Box Score Rochester plated four runners in the third inning, and two in the fourth to provide just enough offense for the bullpen in the ninth, after sta

Twins Minor League Report (4/19): Extra Innings

On Sunday afternoon Trevor May went six innings in his second start of the year for the Twins, holding the Cleveland Indians to just one run on four hits and zero walks. He struck out seven. Torii Hunter also hit his first home run in a Twins uniform since 2007, a three run shot in the sixth inning to help the Twins beat the Indians 7-2, closing their first home stand of the year with a 4-2 record and two series wins. Two of the Twins affiliates went into extra innings, with one collecting a wal

Twins Minor League Report (4/12): Shutouts

In the majors on Sunday afternoon, Phil Hughes was out-dueled by Chris Sale who was making his first start of 2015 season, as the Twins lost the rubber-match of their three game series 6-2 in Chicago.   In the minors, all four of the Twins full-season affiliates were in action on Sunday, and there were a lot of zeroes put up on the scoreboards.   Read on to see how each of them fared.   RED WINGS REPORT Buffalo 2, Rochester 0 Box Score   On the mound for the Red Wings Sunday afternoon was big le

The Next Twins - 2015

Even though the Twins lost yesterday at the hands of David Price and the Detroit Tigers, it’s hard not to be excited for MLB Opening Day. The start of the baseball season means summer is just around the corner, and the prospect of spending afternoons and evenings at Target Field gets me all giddy, even if the opening day roster doesn’t.   You see, despite the fact this roster is currently loaded with veterans and retreads, both new (Tim Stauffer, Blaine Boyer, Ervin Santana, Shane Robinson) and

Twins Minor League Report (AFL Week 6 and Final Recap): Kepler Finishes Season Strong

It was about a week ago where the Minnesota Twins AFL team, the Salt River Rafters, clinched their spot in League Championship game, but they still had a few games left to play before that.   Eddie Rosario entered the season’s final week with a chance at a batting title, and two relief pitching prospects had yet to allow a run in a league play. How would they finish?   Let’s check out what happened in week 6!   Byron Buxton – Did not play.   Buxton had surgery on his fractured finger three weeks

Salt River Rafters Claim AFL Title Behind Bat of Eddie Rosario

The Arizona Fall League season came to a close with the Championship game on Saturday, with the West Division champion Peoria Javelinas facing the East Division champion Salt River Rafters, for whom Minnesota Twins prospects play.   The teams traded haymakers inning after inning in Scottsdale, AZ, with seven total home runs and twenty-one runs scored.   Eddie Rosario got the festivities started for the Rafters, launching a 1-1 pitch deep over the right field fence off Peoria starter Miguel Almon

Twins Minor League Report (AFL Week 5): Rogers Returns

The MLB Free Agency period opened last week after, and in unsurprising news, the Minnesota Twins have yet to make any moves.   Former Twin Michael Cuddyer inked a two-year, $21 million deal with the New York Mets, and all twelve pending free agents to receive qualifying offers, declined them.   In the Arizona Fall League, the Salt River Rafters moved on without the Twins’ Byron Buxton manning centerfield, but welcomed back another one of their participants.   Let’s check out what happened in wee

Twins Minor League Report (AFL Week 4 Recap): Buxton's AFL Season Finished

The big news out of the Minnesota Twins camp this past week was the naming of their next manager, Hall of Famer Paul Molitor, but that wasn’t the only notable news in the organization.   In the Arizona Fall League, it was further bad news for Byron Buxton’s season, as he injured his finger in Monday’s game, and will miss the rest of the AFL season.   Read on to find out how the rest of Twins prospect’s fared during the week, and how the AFL Fall Stars game went for their two participants!   Byro

Twins Minor League Report (AFL Week 3): Hits and Holds

The end of the third week in the Arizona Fall League marks the halfway point of the season, and at this juncture the Salt River Rafters, for whom the Twins prospects play, have clearly been the class of the League. They lead the East Division with a 12-4-1 record and are the only team with double-digit wins.   In week 3, Taylor Rogers was again the only Twins representative who didn’t see action.   Did Eddie Rosario continue to hit? Did Byron Buxton turn it around? Did Zack Jones and Jake Re

Overall on the week, the Rafters were 3-2-1, and Eddie Rosario continued to rake and run.   Let’s see how all of the Twins prospects fared in week two of the Arizona Fall League.     Byron Buxton – 4 games, 3-18 (.167), 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 3 K’s. Twins Minor League Report (8/29): Rochester Remains In Playoff Hunt

Trevor May was cruising for the Twins early in Baltimore tonight, as he had struck five through the first three scoreless innings. But in the fourth the wheels fell off, as he plunked Adam Jones and Nelson Cruz consecutively to load the bases. He struck out old friend(?) Delmon Young, but a walked another, J.J. Hardy, to bring in the game’s first run. Chris Davis then launched a 3-1 pitch for a Grand Slam, and a 5-0 Orioles lead May and the Twins would not recover from.   <rant> Of note

Twins Minor League Report (8/22): Hit Parades

The Minnesota Twins pounded the Detroit Tigers on Friday night TWENTY to six, courtesy of twenty hits including nine for extra bases and four home runs. Eduardo Escobar was a double short of the cycle (which makes no sense…) and 5-6, Kennys Vargas had two doubles, and Oswaldo Arcia smashed his fourth home run (did it hit the Target Center?!) in his last six games. Danny Santana and Trevor Plouffe (back-to-back after Arcia’s vs. Detroit infielder Andrew Romine) also went bombing. Good stuff.

Twins Minor League Report (8/17): We're Going Sweeping!

The Minnesota Twins and newcomer Tommy Millone were knocked around on Sunday afternoon in between the rain delays with myself in attendance, but the young guns in the lineup continued to provide me with some hope the future.   Danny Santana led off the game for the Twins with a triple to left center, Kennys Vargas had three hits on the day including his third career home run, and Oswaldo Arcia launched his 11tth home run of the season.   In the minors, two affiliates completed series sweeps, two

Color Me, and Joe Mauer, Impressed by Lewis Thorpe and Nick Burdi

I was able to be talked into taking a trip down to Cedar Rapids on Saturday to catch Joe Mauer playing with the Kernels. For this particular game they had a cool promotion, where it was “Jimmy Buffet Night,” complete with the Kernels wearing special jerseys, which were auctioned off after the game. Mauer’s took in $1,000.   After the game, when told that was probably a record for the Kernels jersey auctions, beating Byron Buxton by $250, Mauer remarked, “I’m glad to raise some money. Twins Minor League Report (8/8): #MayDay Is Here, Poulson Debuts

The big news in Twins Territory on Friday was the promotion of Trevor May, who will make his MLB debut against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday, opposing recent A’s acquisition Jeff Samardzija. Twins Minor League Report (8/3): Comeback Trails

The Minnesota Twins offense exploded twenty-three hits to pound their rival White Sox on Sunday afternoon in Chicago, 16-3. Danny Santana was 5-6 and a home run shy of the cycle, while Chris Parmelee (2-2), Oswaldo Arcia (3-6), and Eric Fryer (3-6) hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning with the game well in hand. Twins Minor League Report (8/2): Three-Headed Monsters...

In the majors, Minnesota Twins starter Yohan Pino ran into trouble in the seventh inning, and it led to four runs and a 6-4 Chicago White Sox lead. The Twins were able to make an immediate comeback with a three fun eighth inning however, punctuated by a two-RBI double off the bat of Oswaldo Arcia. They would add an insurance run in the ninth, courtesy of Danny Santana’s fifth home run, and Glen Perkins shut the door on the White Sox to pick up his 27th save on the year.   In the minors, one af

Twins Minor League Report (7/27): Stephen Gonsalves Debuts In Mwl

The Minnesota Twins were able to avoid the brutal 4-game sweep at home courtesy of their fellow AL Central bottom dwellers, the Chicago White Sox, after a Sam Fuld single in the seventh inning gave them just enough of a cushion for the eventual 4-3 victory. Twins Minor League Report (7/20): Quality Starting

The Tampa Bay Rays finished off a three game sweep of the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon with a 5-3 victory in the heat at Target Field. Kevin Correia wasn’t able to continue his recent run of solid pitching, as he lasted just four innings and gave up runs in each of the first three.   In the minors, the starting pitching was the story of the day, but in a good way as all four full-season affiliate starters pitched into the sixth inning.
